Barbara Murray – Candidate for County Council Interview Questions
Why are you running for Delaware County Council?
I am running for County Council to ensure the voters of Delaware County have a clear choice in the Republican primary – someone who is experienced in both the political and business world. I am running to encourage others not to be afraid to step forward and become involved in our political process. Years ago, I heard that some party leaders count on voters not paying attention to politics. This way, they can control the few who do pay attention. When I heard this, I needed to become involved in the political process. I have served this county in a variety of capacities, from Committeewoman and Judge of Election in Upper Darby, to a member of Republican State Committee. I also served as Vice Chairman of the Mainstream Republicans, an organization formed to ensure the advancement of strong Republican candidates who support the principles of our Constitution and the Republican Party. As citizen of Delaware County I believe that it is critical for each of us to be involved in the political process to give back to our communities and to ensure our political leaders listen to their constituents. The voters, and the committee people of this county, should decide which candidates are endorsed in each election. The candidates who are elected should be able to freely make decisions on behalf of their constituents and not be beholden to party bosses. If I am elected, I will serve the voters of Delaware County and not necessarily the party leaders.
