My County Council Goals
Eliminate waste in county budget. Delaware County’s budget is $100 million dollars more than Montgomery County’s, even though Delaware County does not have a Department of Health – as Montgomery County does. By prioritizing, and eliminating waste, we can bring Delaware County’s budget in line.
A 10% decrease in the salary for each County Council member. - County Council can play a key role in these difficult economic times leading by example. If government and business consider reducing salary instead of layoffs, they will not only help themselves and their employees but also the economy get back on its feet. Good, open government, i.e. more transparency. - The details of every transaction disclosing how taxpayer dollars are spent should be posted on the Delaware County website. The Delaware County general budget is made available; however, specific line item information should be shared such as the grant funding received from the federal and state governments. In addition, the Home Rule Charter, Administrative Code and the Ordinances of the county should be published on the Delaware County website for everyone to access without having to submit a request. - Need to open up the entire process, starting with Republican Party process for candidate recruitment. Input from local committee people mandatory. Involve grassroots in the process, and solicit input from the voters on their own interests and issues. Consideration should be given to all qualified and interested candidates for each office. Alternate County Council meetings.
- Meetings should be held alternately in the morning or in the evenings. In this way, everyone in the County will have an opportunity to attend, not just those available during the day.
- Televise all County Council meetings, including the meetings where discussions of proposals and/or decisions are made. Network with other counties. - Meeting with other counties in the surrounding areas to access their ‘best practices’ as a county government. This too might also foster new ideas for how to save the taxpayers’ money.
