Current Issues 

Proposed Soccer Stadium – Due diligence should have been given to the decision to use taxpayer funds to support this endeavor.  First and foremost, proof of the financial stability of both the team and the league should have been required.  County Council was not even given access to the league’s finances before making their decision.   As a huge sports fan, I believe that stadiums provide the locale for a wonderful and wholesome form of recreation, but are best supported by the private sector rather than the taxpayer.   I would like to see our money spent revitalizing critical infrastructure that already exists.  

Recycling – I am so glad that more municipalities are providing this service and that more citizens than ever are participating.  However, in some municipalities, more frequent pick-ups and/or same day trash and recycling is needed to ease the process and further encourage new participation.  Additional days for hazardous waste disposal are also needed county-wide.      

Senior Citizens – We need more creative, immediate, ways of solving reduction in property taxes for our seniors (in addition to all taxpayers), such as tax forgiveness for time spent serving our country and/or volunteering for community service for our senior citizens.  I also feel we need to tap into the wealth of knowledge, experience and abilities our seniors can provide to our county.  I have admired the county for the senior forums available for information.  However, we need to incorporate their involvement in community activities such as partnering with teens to learn from each other – One group has life experiences; the other has technology experience.
